Arsenal face Odegaard injury doubt as Tierney lay-off is confirmed

Martin Odegaard is a doubt for Arsenal’s Europa League contest with Slavia Prague on Thursday.

The Norwegian has been struggling with an ankle issue ever since he returned from international duty.

Odegaard picked up a knock during Norway’s clash with Gibraltar last month and has been unable to shake it off.

The playmaker is now being assessed ahead of Thursday’s European clash at the Emirates, the club confirmed on their website.

Mikel Arteta is already preparing for the Czech side knowing that he’ll be without Kieran Tierney, who has been a leading light throughout the season.

The left-back hobbled off in Arsenal’s defeat to Liverpool at the weekend.

Tierney has suffered knee ligament damage but will not require surgery and is expected to be back in training within four to six weeks.

Odegaard has been an instant hit at the Emirates following his January loan move from Real Madrid.

Arsenal on keen on a permanent deal but the playmaker’s preference is to return to the Spanish capital.

The 22-year-old has been concerned by the lack of harmony within the Gunners camp, reports Eurosport, and is unsure whether the squad are behind Arteta.

That divide was discussed by Gary Neville following Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday.

He said: “We don’t know what goes on behind the scenes at Arsenal, but I have to say there’s a few of those players in the front part of the pitch who looked like a little mafia against Liverpool.

“It looked like a group of players who weren’t comfortable, like there was a disconnect between them and the manager.

“The manager looked like he’d had enough of them. He had that glazed-eye look.

“It’s instinct, but we’ve been around football for long enough to know when a group of players are disinterested.”
