Real Madrid vs Liverpool referee fires back at Klopp after “personal” comment

2 min read

Referee Felix Brych had a few words for Jurgen Klopp after the Liverpool boss hit out at the official following the defeat to Real Madrid.

The Reds lost 3-1 at Real’s Alfredo Di Stefano stadium as they left themselves with plenty of work to do in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Klopp’s side were 2-0 down at half-time after goals from Vinicius Junior and Marco Asensio, and although Mohamed Salah restored hope with an early strike in the second period, Vinicius soon struck again to take the game away from Liverpool.

The Reds will hope that they can turn the tie around back at Anfield in a week’s time, but Klopp was only focused on his fellow German Brych after the match.

The Reds boss felt that the official had failed to spot a foul on Sadio Mane in the build-up to Asensio’s goal, and he approached Brych to tell him so.

The pair remained in conversation as they headed towards the tunnel, with Klopp – as reported by the Liverpool Echo – saying that Brych had been “unfair” on his side.

Brych then responded: “What you’re doing now is unfair too.”

Speaking after the match, Klopp said: “The situation with Sadio today, the ref I don’t know. Was it something personal?

“Whenever Sadio went down he didn’t get anything to be honest.

“I thought he was unfair with Sadio, that’s what I told him.

“He didn’t lose us the game but you need just an okay ref.”
