Marcos Rojo has vowed to try and persuade Edinson Cavani to swap Manchester United for Boca Juniors.

The Argentine has returned to his homeland and is hoping to be joined by the prolific forward, who could be available this summer.

Cavani has not yet been a United player for a year, but his father has claimed he is unhappy at Old Trafford and wants to return to South America.

Rojo, who spent six years on United’s books, insists he will look to play a key role in persuading Cavani to join.

He said: “Of course and apart from that he wants it, which is important.

“When I told him I had the possibility of signing for Boca, he told me about his situation.

“He said he had spoken with the club’s vice-president Roman Riquelme and he really liked the option and it would interest him in the future.

“I’m no-one to say if he’s going to come or not, that’s his choice, he has to take that decision with his family.”

Rojo has revealed that discussions have been held with the 34-year-old striker regarding a move to La Bombonera.

Edinson Cavani is said to be unsettled in Manchester

He said: “I spoke with him. I played a little with him. We were together for four or five months.

“He is a great professional and if he reaches Argentine football, he would be a great star that would do Argentine football good.”

Rojo is also hoping to tempt the Uruguayan with an unusual promise.

“I promised to take him fishing if he comes here,” he said.

“He loves fishing, he’s always going on about it. He has a lake near his home and was always trying to get me to go out with him.”
