Grand National Festival 2021 LIVE: Updates from day one at Aintree with Tiger Roll racing

1 min read

The Grand National Festival kicks-off today with three days of racing leading up to the main event on Saturday at 5.15pm. The opening day sees a host of top horses in action, including back-to-back Grand National winner Tiger Roll.

Tiger Roll has been placed into the 14:50 Betway Bowl Steeple Chase, which is a Grade One event, instead of this weekend’s Grand National.

However, owner Michael O’Leary and his brother Eddie are not convinced that their five-time Cheltenham Festival winner can still do the business.

“If he wins, we will be very pleasantly surprised, but everyone knows why he’s here,” Eddie said.

“He’s doing his very best but I assume he will be reassessed by the handicapper afterwards.”

The Betway Bowl Steeple Chase is one-and-a-quarter miles shorter than the Grand National, and all eight horses must be of a similar weight.
