Chelsea had Mason Mount to thank as they took one giant step towards the Champions League semi-final.

Goals from Mount and Ben Chilwell handed Thomas Tuchel’s side a 2-0 win in their first leg against FC Porto.

In what was technically their away fixture, the Blues took complete command of the tie, but only after Mount opened the scoring in superb fashion.

After a tight opening, Jorginho fired a quick pass into the England star’s feet, only for him to turn the defender and fire into the bottom corner.

It’s the latest in a string of impressive performances for the 22-year-old, who is becoming a vital part for both his club and country.

Speaking after the win, Chelsea favourite Joe Cole spoke in glowing terms about the academy graduate and heaped praise on the role he played in the transition from Frank Lampard to Tuchel back in January.

“He’s a manager’s dream,” Cole told BT Sport. “Not only does he have this natural ability and he effects the game in the final third, the imagination to take that on his back foot on the blindside of the defender then the ability to finish.

“Not only has he got all of that, he’s a manager’s dream because he does the tactics to a tee off the ball.

“In that difficult spell just before they changed the manager, when nobody was playing well, he stood up, so he’s a leader as well.”

Thomas Tuchel heaped praise on the midfielder following the win

Tuchel is set for a key role in Gareth Southgate’s squad this summer after emerging as one of the Premier League’s best midfielder.

Asked if he was the best young English talent, Tuchel simply stated how impressed he was at his ability to do the job for his team.

The German continued: “He is a very important player for our squad at a young age. I can only repeat that he has the right mentality and attitude towards training and games.
