Liverpool have opted to release four academy players as Jurgen Klopp continues his revamp of the Reds squad.

Klopp has hinted that the playing staff needs improving after their bid to retain the Premier League title went up in smoke.

Ibrahima Konate has already arrived in a deal worth in the region of £40million, adding valuable depth to the central defensive ranks.

More arrivals are anticipated, but Liverpool have confirmed four departures, with Liam Coyle, Joe Hardy, Abdi Sharif and Jack Walls all allowed to leave.

The quartet have all been involved in the developmental squads on Merseyside, with Walls in particular impressing in 2020/21, scoring six times.

But with opportunities in the first team likely to be at a premium, the four have been confirmed on their released list.

Meanwhile, highly rated left-back Yasser Larouci has been offered a new contract as the new 20-year-old assesses his options.

Fellow academy graduate Billy Koumetio dropped a hint on Larouci’s Instagram last week, posting a message to him which read: “See you my friend and all the best”.

However, according to the club Larouci and Remi Savage have been offered a contract, but have yet to make a final decision.

Klopp has spoken in detail about the club’s approach in the upcoming window, suggesting that while financial restraints will remain in place, players could be brought in to improve the quality within the squad.

“Whatever we do, or not do, in the next transfer window, for sure we’ll not use it as any kind of excuse,” Klopp explained at the end of the season.

“We did what we did in the past with the way we did it; when there was money, we spent it, when there was no money, we didn’t spend it.

How many players do Liverpool need to sign this summer? Comment below

“Here we are. That’s how it is. Yes, I’m very happy with my squad. Very, very happy.

“Could this squad improve? Yes, like each squad could. Is that affordable? I don’t know. Is it necessary? I don’t know.

“Whatever happens, we will see. I don’t know at this moment, to be honest. We have to make decisions, in and out. It’s normal in the summer.”

The German also suggested he will continue with his commitment in promoting youngsters after blooding the likes of Curtis Jones, Rhys Williams, Neco Williams and Caoimhin Kelleher.

Klopp continued: “We might not be the best team in the world at the start of the season, but we want to be again the team who nobody wants to play against because we are that good. I think that’s possible.

“I really think my responsibility is to improve the team without signings as well.

“Our players are all high-quality players, we have everything: experience, we have players in the best age and we have youth.”
