West Ham are set to step up their pursuit of Jesse Lingard following his Euro 2020 heartbreak with England.

Lingard failed to make it into Gareth Southgate‘s squad for this summer’s delayed tournament despite his sensational form on loan with the Hammers in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.

After sealing a temporary move from Manchester United in January, the 28-year-old fired home nine goals in 16 appearances to help David Moyes’ men secure Europa League football for next season.

He appeared likely to secure a place in the Three Lions’ squad for Euro 2020, especially when Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold pulled out through injury last week.

However, Southgate instead opted to replace Alexander-Arnold with Brighton defender Ben White, meaning Lingard will not play a part in the tournament.

Following the United star’s release from international duty, The Sun are reporting that Moyes is now keen to press ahead and secure a deal to bring him to east London on a permanent basis.

A West Ham insider is quoted as saying: “Jesse knows we want him, so hopefully the club will pursue him in the next month or so.”

Lingard’s United future is seemingly over, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deeming him surplus to requirements following the £67million arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January of last year.

A permanent transfer to the London Stadium would surely suit all parties, as the player only has a year to run on his current deal at Old Trafford.

That means United only have one more transfer window to cash in on their academy graduate before he can begin negotiating a free move abroad at the turn of the year.

Lingard has made 210 appearances for the Red Devils since emerging from their youth ranks in 2014, scoring 33 goals.

He has got his hands on the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League in 10 years as a professional at the club, having put pen to paper on his first senior deal back in 2011.
